Sandia National Laboratories (report SAND2022-10393) compared the PHDS Fulcrum-40h against the ORTEC Detective-X across gamma efficiency, energy resolution, angular response, neutron efficiency, pulse pileup, and gamma-to-neutron crosstalk. The Fulcrum-40h averaged at least 20% higher gamma efficiency below roughly 300 keV, the region most relevant to special nuclear material, owing to its 80 mm crystal diameter. Resolution was comparable between the two systems. The Detective-X showed higher efficiency above 2000 keV and 20 to 50 times higher neutron efficiency, reflecting its larger crystal depth and neutron detector area.
