Sellafield's Decommissioning Capability Development End of Year Report (2016-17) describes the evaluation of nine different gamma imaging systems for characterizing radiation environments across the site's decommissioning program. Following an internal evaluation endorsed by the Remediation Technical Committee, two systems were purchased: the N-Visage imager for high dose, restricted-access environments, and the PHDS GeGI, described as better suited to fast results in low dose rate areas. The report estimates that fit-for-purpose gamma imaging could save more than 100 million pounds over the program.
