Savannah River National Laboratory: Gamma-Ray Imaging Assay of 235-F PuFF East Cell Line Cells 3-5 (2017)

SRNL used the GeGI in Compton and pinhole modes to map Pu-238 distribution in Cells 3-5 of the 235-F East Cell Line, refining a prior holdup model with spatial source data.

Savannah River National Laboratory (report SRNL-STI-2017-00177) measured Cells 3 to 5 of the East Cell Line in the 235-F Plutonium Fuel Form Facility using the PHDS GeGI through the cell windows. Because the imager identifies the location of gamma-emitting sources, it mapped the relative concentration of Pu-238 throughout each cell. The team used both Compton mode, a wide-angle mode with moderate spatial resolution, and pinhole mode, a high resolution mode with narrow field of view. The new spatial data supplemented an earlier 2014 assay model to produce a more accurate holdup estimate for each cell.
